In Honor of Chucky

It is with great sadness that I write today about the recent passing of one of Construction Junction’s employees, Charles (“Chucky”) Penrose.  If you purchased a door in the last five years at Construction Junction it was likely processed by Chucky.  Many of CJ’s regulars may never have interacted with Chucky because he was in the back area steadily working on keeping our door section fully stocked.

Charles was a quiet, respectful, and reserved person.  I never heard him speak ill of anyone.  He was the only employee that consistently addressed me as "Sir" and not because I asked him to.  He came to us in 2002 through Life's Work of Southwestern PA.  Life's Work assists persons with disabilities or other barriers to employment achieve dignity through productive employment opportunities.  I hope Chucky found some dignity at CJ.  He once told me that this was the only place he ever worked where people didn't yell at him all the time.

Chucky's passing reminds me that businesses have the power to provide not only services and products for people but physical places for individuals to find "a way to fit in" to society.  Working at CJ is not for everyone, but for Chucky (I feel) it was a place where he could come and make his contribution.

He will be missed.

CJ Q&A

I am looking for an older wooden door approx 3 inches thick for a stone tudor home.  Original hardware would be great as well. -- Mary Lynn

Mary Lynn -- We get this question often... someone looking for a very specific type or size of door.  Because so many doors (thousands) rotate through our inventory on a regular basis and we currently lack an inventory tracking system, it is really difficult for us to zero in on ones with certain specifications.  We know that being able to "zero in" would be of great value and we're working to make that option a reality.  For the time being however, the best option is to come to the store and we'll do our best to help you find the door you're looking for.  -- Cozmo
