Special Thanks
To Construction Junction's customers and donors. Without you we would not be possible and we appreciate your participation with our organization greatly!!
We always get emails and phone calls from folks who would like to see us offer classes. We intend to do more of that kind of thing once we've completed our building renovation and in fact we're incorporating class/workshop space right into the building design. Until that time however... we thought we'd share some information about some great environmentally focused classes being offered by the Pennsylvania Resources Council.
Backyard Composting:
Composting is nature’s way of recycling. By utilizing the natural process of decomposition, organic waste like kitchen scraps and yard waste are transformed into a rich soil conditioner. This workshop covers the importance of composting, building a compost pile, proper maintenance and uses of finished compost. Participants/couples will receive one Earth Machine compost bin with attendance. The cost is $40 per person or $50 per couple. More info...
Feeding the Earth:
Before the 1850’s, farmers used the power of organic waste in nearly every region of the world. Learn how we lost these fundamental insights; the costs of this disconnection; and some promising developments on this important frontier, both around the world and right here in Southwest PA. The cost is $10 per person. More info...
Human Health and the Environment:
This workshop will heighten your awareness of everyday carcinogens and toxins that we come into contact with in the products we use and the food we eat. The program provides practical solutions and healthy lifestyle alternatives to reduce your exposure. All participants/couples will receive a non-toxic green cleaning kit. The cost is $20 per person or $25 per couple. More info...
Watershed Awareness/Rain Barrel:
Attend a watershed awareness/rain barrel workshop and return home equipped (with everything except the 55-gal. drum) to assemble and install a retrofitted rain barrel. Learn how to harvest rainwater from your roof and divert it for on-site usage in the landscape. The cost is $35 per person or $45 per couple. More info...
Worm Composting:
Indoor worm composting (vermicomposting) is easy, fun, odorless, and produces a great soil additive! Learn how to care for composting red worms who will feed on your kitchen scraps. Participants/couples will go home with a complete, ready to use vermiculture system including a worm bin, worms and instructions. The cost is $45 per person or $55 per couple. More info...

CJ Q&A
Do you dispose of air conditioners? If so, what is cost? -- Dolores
Dolores -- This certainly is a timely question considering it's been blazing hot and many, many folks are likely upgrading their air conditioners while at the same time wondering what they can do with their old ones. Construction Junction does accept old AC units. We charge a $10 fee so the freon can handled appropriately. Thanks for your question. -- Cozmo
